Slide Mine VCUP – Mine Site Remedial Action
Client: Mt. Royale Ventures for, Gold Reef Mining, Inc.
Location: Boulder County, Colorado, United States
In 2007, MES performed the steep slope reclamation of this large mine waste pile, as part of a voluntary cleanup agreement as an alternative to a Superfund listing for this site.
This project required the use of innovative methods to achieve a rock cover on top of a geotechnical liner, as well as gabions lining a stormwater channel in a very steep area (at an angle of repose). Inert rock was moved from a mine waste pile down the hill using a slusher, then processed for size, and then the rip-rap fraction was transported down to the final placement area, where it was secured on the slope using staked-in retention structures constructed of “Trex” material. This project was submitted by the Client for a state reclamation award.
