MES was initially retained by HDR Engineering in 2013-14 to provide consulting and design services to support the re-opening and stabilization of the Standard Mine NPL Site underground workings. This included working with HDR and agency stakeholders to finalize remedial alternatives, provide ground support designs for a wide range of possible conditions, and project scope and cost estimates.

As a follow-on to the initial contract, commencing in 2015 and continuing to 2017, MES has provided a design package for a high-pressure underground bulkhead, grouting program, underground shaft closures, and supplemental ground control. Work to support construction includes the development of bid items and cost estimates, responding to contractor RFIs, development of inspection checklists for HDR resident engineers, and site inspection. MES is teamed with its geotechnical engineering subcontractor, L-7 Services, for portions of the design work.
